Bank of Saint Lucia is continuing to honor its commitment to youth development through education by donating much needed computer equipment through a partnership with the National Community Foundation (NCF) and the Stanley Jon Odlum Memorial Secondary School.
The new normal brought about by COVID-19, has accelerated the transition to online learning by way of virtual classrooms. Bank of Saint Lucia has recognized the challenges faced by students across the island especially particular those who do not have access to computers.
Through the long standing partnership with the NCF of over 20 years, Bank of Saint Lucia was able to step up to the plate and donate 10 brand new Dell Laptops to students in need, who were identified by the Foundation. Michelle Phillips, Executive Director of the NCF mentioned that “these laptops come at a very opportune time with the influx of COVID-19 cases on island, there are children who are going to school but are unable to participate in virtual classroom activities because they do not have the devices.”
Principal of the Stanley Jon Odlum Memorial Secondary School, Mr. Fontenelle was also present to receive two desktop computers and a Cisco Switch. He went on to express that “this equipment will definitely enhance and facilitate the transition to online learning.”
Deputy Managing Director responsible for Lending and Investments at BOSL, Mr. Medford Francis encouraged other financial institutions and corporate Saint Lucia to support like initiatives. He went on to say that “we need to continue to support the education of your young people here in Saint Lucia.”
Bank of Saint Lucia is pleased to give back to the education sector particularly during October which is recognized by the ECCB and the Saint Lucia Banker’s Association as Financial Information Month. The donations were well received and timely as this year’s theme “Building Financial Resilience in a COVID-19 Environment” speaks specifically to overcoming challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic.
